  • Santiam Wine & Bistro December 2023 Exciting six pack. All I want for Christmas list!

    • 2021 Chateau Garland Bordeaux Supérieur France $16 This wine comes from a family-owned estate on the right bank of Bordeaux just north of Pomerol. Smooth and elegant with a core of dark autumnal fruits scented with mulling spice, flint, and coffee, alluring with warm rich flavors of Luxardo cherry and black currant jam; this wine shows breadth and depth well beyond its modest price. "Baby Petrus!" A sleeper.
    • 2021 Browne Heritage Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $16 This wine displays a pleasing mix of elevated acidity, silky tannins, and restrained alcohol. Aromatically, it is a heady mix of blackberries, straw, and oily, dark-roasted coffee beans. It feels crisp and lively in the mouth, with flavors like blackberries, sweet, buttery edamame and a ristretto shot of espresso.
    • 2020 Achaval Ferrer Mabec Argentina $20 - JS 92 James Suckling - Racy strawberries, morello cherries and haw fruit, cinnamon, and cloves, too. Medium-to full-bodied with white pepper, and green olives. Solid, fine-grained tannins.
    • 2021 Rocks of Bawn Chehalem Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon WA. $20 (This is a new project from David O’Reily formerly Owen Roe) This rugged Cabernet Sauvignon is not for the faint of heart. Sourced from the high elevation Frenchman Hills Vineyard in the Royal Slope AVA that lends bright fruit flavors and silky tannins – when blended with Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain and the Horse Heaven Hills a well-balanced and intense wine created. If you are digging all day long, then this wine will soothe your aching bones! Do not be afraid to open well before serving to soften those tannins!

Pale ruby in color with aromas of black cherry, your palate will enjoy the fruit flavor. Not overly tannic, you are immediately met with plum, black cherry, red licorice, and pinecone. This varietal usually thrives in cooler climates, so the warmth of the Red Mountain AVA heat certainly highlights the fruitier side of this varietal spectrum.
